The Lagos State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, has won the Lagos State Man of the Year award for 2013.
A release by the organisers of the award, the Centre for Policy Development and Political Studies, stated that the commissioner won amidst stiff competition from nine other nominees for the award.
The nominees’ names were published in the newspaper where Lagosians were invited to vote for the person of their choice from which Hamzat polled the highest number of votes. Out of the 10,502 people who voted during the competition, the Works Commissioner polled 3,242 votes beating into second place Dr Obiora Anthony Chukwuka, Executive Chairman, Greenlife Pharmaceuticals Limited who polled 3,017 votes into second place. Mr. Akin Hanson, Permanent Secretary, Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA), Lagos State, came third with 1,431 votes.
Other nominees and their scores are: Otunba Fatai Olukoga, Special Adviser on Education to the Lagos State Governor, 735 votes; Hon. Ayodele Adewale, Chairman, Amuwo Odofin Local Government/Publicity Secretary, Conference 57, 255 votes; Mr. Babatunde Fowler, Executive Chairman, Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, 494 votes; Dr Micheal Olawale-Cole, President/Chairman of Council, Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), 192 votes; Mr. Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Skye Bank Plc. 176 votes; Engineer Babatunde Odufuwa, Chairman, Governing Council, Lagos City Polytechnic, 686 votes; and Dr Taiwo Olayinka Afolabi, Managing Director/CEO, Sifax Group, 274 votes.
Hamzat’s official presentation with the award plaque will take place at a date to be announced by the organisers.
