Delta Assembly Speaker, Victor Ochei’s Passion For Charity And Good Governance
Having a great idea and assembling a team to bring that concept to life is one of the steps to a successful leadership. This is one of the qualities possessed by the Rt. Hon (Engr.) Victor Onyekachi Ochei, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly.
Prior to his elevation to Speakership, the bubbly lawmaker had represented Aniocha North State Constituency since 2003. He was the deputy minority leader of the Third Assembly and also served as the Chairman of House Committee on Education of the penultimate Assembly.
His dynamic leadership has aided House to function optimally, and in synergy with the Executive in giving hope to the masses, who daily look up to government for succour. His avowed commitment is geared towards ensuring that the legislature continues on its part of robust, painstaking and detailed legislation so that the people can continue to derive the benefit of good governance.
For one thing, Hon. Ochei believes most fervently that when a good life is made politically secure for majority of the citizens, the best state exists. The Victor Ochei Foundation which he founded in 2001 has provided brand-new buses to all secondary schools in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Ochei is one lawmaker who will go down in history as touching the most lives in the country. This is because the University of Benin Chemical Engineering graduate has continually been affecting the lives of people especially his people of Delta State positively. The speaker who strongly believes in the saying that: “Whatever we do for ourselves alone dies with us; and that whatever we  do for others and the world remains and is immortal”, has ensured that his positive imprint is planted in the hearts of many who have come his way.
To Ochei, The Victor Ochei Foundation” which he founded in 2001 has been very active in the areas of poverty alleviation.  This outfit among other philanthropic gestures has provided succor to less privileged students who crave formal education. His contributions in the education sector are immense too. His Foundation has acquired buses to convey  students to and from  schools in Aniocha North Local Government Area where he is representing.
A phenomenal philanthropist, Rt. Hon. Ochei has attracted monumental development to his people through project execution, scholarship schemes and many empowerment programmes that have transformed the lives of the people of his Constituency.
Meanwhile, the articulate leader has promised to reward good journalism in the country; this laudable scheme, he has started by doling out one million naira each to journalists annually, while he has promised to extend the gesture to other parts of the country, especially the Southwest.
Apparently aware of the benefits of good education, Hon. Ochei, in 1996, returned to the University of Benin where he earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He also holds Certificate in Good Governance from Oxford University, England.
He is a prominent member of the De Saints International Club, an NGO which has a passion for improving the lot of the down trodden.
The Delta State Legislature has reiterated its resolve to intensify efforts at enunciating new bills that will further impact positively on Deltans in line with their constitutional calling of making laws for the good governance of the polity.
A gifted orator, a community builder, a democrat and an efficient team player, Hon. Victor Onyekachi Ochei is happily married and the union is blessed with children.
