The Chairman of Alimoso Local Government Area of Lagos State, Israel Olusola Adekunle, has called on the people of the state to participate fully in the integrated measles campaign currently going on in the state.
Adekunle spoke during the flag off of the campaign which took place at the Akowonjo secretariat of the local government.
According to the council boss, Nigerians, particularly Lagosians need to participate fully in the programme meant to eradicate measles in the society. “Medically, it has been proved that measles is dangerous and can be very deadly. It can lead to blindness and even death hence the need for this integrated campaign against the deadly disease,” Adekunle explained.
The Alimoso LG boss explained further that between January and September this year, 53,842 cases of measles have been reported while about 33 deaths have been reported from the cases. “Therefore it becomes imperative for government at all levels to embark on a sustained campaign against the disease and continue to create awareness on it,” he said.
Adekunle stated further that the local government on its part has been creating awareness on measles and other deadly diseases while outreach services are being provided in all the seven health centres in the local government.
