Two students from Osun have emerged the best, for the second time in as many years, at the final examinations of the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University medical school, Kharkiv, Ukraine.
The two students: Mustapha Lateefat Kemi, a native of Okuku, has the highest mark while Adebayo Rukayat Abiodun
It would be recalled another student, Oyeleye Lateefah Abiola, also emerged the best graduating student in 2017 when the first batch of the students graduated.
The Karazin Kharkiv National University is 213 years old having been founded in November 1804.
The University is the only one in Ukraine that has produced at least three Nobel Prize laureates.
The institution is one of the oldest and leading universities in the Eastern Europe. It is second oldest university in the Ukraine, second only to the University of Lviv, Ukraine.
The university has produced three Nobel Prize laureates. They include Ilie Mechnikov (Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine); Simon Kuznet (1971 Nobel Prize in Economics); and Lev Landau (Physics).
Respite came the way of the students, who were in their year 3rd, 4th and 5th years respectively when Governor Aregbesola decided to send them to Ukraine after a rigorous search for universities across the world where their dreams as doctors could be realised.
According to a letter signed by the students and addressed to the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Mrs. Grace Titi Laoye-Tomori, the students expressed appreciations for the efforts of the state government under Governor Rauf Aregbesola to ensure they complete their medical studies which were truncated after the National Universities Commission declined to accredit their medical studies before the advent of the Aregbesola administration.
The letter by the student reads in part: “With happiness and joy in our hearts, we write to inform you of our unparalled success in our final Exam (Krok 2). “As it has been in the last 2 years, every student sponsored by the Osun State Government passed the examination and we didn’t just pass, the best 2 Students in our final examination this year are indigenes and beneficiaries of the Scholarship Scheme from the State of Osun.”
The students, in the letter jointly signed stated further, “We cannot but appreciate you and the good people of the State of Osun for giving us this rare privilege that we took maximum advantage of as a team.
“We appreciate the love you and the entire people of Osun has showered on us from the beginning of our stay in Ukraine till this point and we’re looking forward to seeing you and other delegates from the State of Osun to come celebrate this great feat with us as we get inducted into the Medical World on the 2nd of July, 2018.”
