Nigeria’s Flying Eagles this evening booked their place in the semi finals of the football event at the ongoing 12th African Games.
Emeka Chinonso made the difference with the second late equalizer to break the hearts of the Moroccans present.
Engalnd’s Brooke House Football Academy striker, Emeka Chinonso 85th minute strike was enough for the Flying to pick one of the semifinals tickets in group A of the football event.
The Moroccans took the lead after a misunderstanding between the Nigerian goalkeeper and one of his defenders.
The Flying Eagles fought hard to get the equalizer through a penalty kick scored by the captain, Abubakar Ibrahim to end the first half at par with their host.
The Moroccans got their own penalty when the referee adjudge Samuel Zaruma handled the ball in box 18, the resultant penalty was scored by Ismail Moutarajji.
But the fighting spirit of Nigeria came to the fore when the Flying Eagles came back on second occasion as Chinonso scored in the 85th minutes of the match to send the host packing.
Quadri Liameed speaking after the match, expressed happiness over the draw, saying their plan is to take the match one after the other.
The 36 Lion Football Club middfielder stated that their target is to win the gold medal for the country, adding that they will remain focus ahead of their next match.
He thanked their female counterparts for their support, saying their presence went a long way in pushing them to the limit.
"When our sisters (The Falconets) came into the arena, we were a goal down. But their support from the stands with other Nigerians present push and motivate us, it was like the tonic we needed to go the extra mile,” he said.
Nigeria and Burkina Faso are now through to the semifinals of the football event.
