Umar Mohammed, 18, has been remanded following his arraignment before a magistrate on Friday.
During proceeding, police prosecutor Thomas Peter, an inspector, said the defendant and two others, currently at large, robbed their victim of his Techno phone.
The incident, he said, took place at Tunga Goro community of Minna on October 10.
‘The police recovered the phone the defendant following a complaint from the victim’, says Peter.
He adds that the offence contravened Sections 97 and 298 of the Penal Code.
After listening to the prosecution, the Magistrate, Binta Rijau, declined to take the defendant’s plea.
She cited lack of jurisdiction for her decision, but ordered Mohammed’s remand in a correctional facility pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecution.
The case was adjourned till Nov. 26 for further mention.
