The Police in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria, have said a baby reported missing at Kajola Mile 2, Abeokuta had been rescued and reunited with her mother.
According to report, a certain Falilat Olatunji was found with the missing baby on Wednesday.
Upon interrogation, she admitted stealing her from her mother’s living room while the latter carried out laundry at the rear of their home.
Olatunji allegedly said she stole four-month-old boy to cover up her fake pregnancy and had hoped to deceive her husband with it.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesperson for the Ogun Command of the Police, said one Alhaji Abdulakeem Dawodu reported the baby’s mysterious disappearance before his rescue.
“Upon the report, the DPO, Sabo Ilupeju Division, CSP Alhasan AbdulAzeez, mobilised his detectives to the scene”
“Their efforts yielded positive results when the suspect was sighted at Ilewo-Orile with the baby and she was promptly arrested,” she said.
Also, the police said another baby was discovered on Ugbe Akoko in the Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
One Monsurat Arogundade, suspected to be the mother, has been arrested. The report said two landlords in the area discovered the baby.
“The duo immediately came to the scene with others to pick the child. The police accompanied them to take the child to hospital, ” said a source quoted in the report.
Femi Joseph, spokesperson for Ondo Police Command, said the suspect confessed to abandoning her baby.
“The mother of the baby is with us, but she could not give us the reason for abandoning the child. She was just crying. But we have commenced investigation into the matter,” he said.
