Strong indications has emerged that campaign for the 2014 governorship election in Osun was gathering momentum as a volunteer group, ‘De Raufs’ called for the re-election of Gov. Rauf Aregbesola.
One of the group’s spokespersons, Mr. Yinka Muyiwa disclosed this at the Leisure Spring Hotel, venue of the group’s inauguration adding that ‘De Raufs’ was out to ensure the second term of Aregbesola.
Muyiwa said the group was impressed by the accomplishments of the governor so far especially the provision of jobs for the youth through the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES).
He also recounted other programmes such as the state agricultural scheme, the provision of free lunch for pupils in public schools and the development of infrastructure in schools among others.
Muyiwa, who is a legal practitioner, described the governor as a servant leader with the virtues of humility, discipline, hard work and courage, stressing that he was ready to do more for the state.
Also speaking, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the October 2012 Ondo gubernatorial election, lauded the brains behind De Raufs.
Akeredolu observed that the group did not emerge on the basis of political party but had membership from all spheres of life with a view to working for the development of the state.
The politician said that membership of the group was open to people from other political parties as well as volunteers from the public.
Akeredolu posited that those who needed to boost the numerical strength of the group were people who were not yet members of the ACN because party members and supporters were already there.
Supporters of Aregbesola are now doting the popular Oke-fia roundabout Osogbo with posters of Aregbesola for his second term in office.
