PDP Behind CAN’s Allegation, Says Osun Information Commissioner

The Osun State Government has asked the main opposition party in the state, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to forget about winning the 2014 governorship election stressing the people of the state are now wiser than before.

The government also said that no amount of intimidation, mudslinging nor blackmail will make the people of the state to vote for the PDP adding that the opposition party was merely day dreaming when it said that it will win next year’s governorship election in the state.

Fielding questions from journalists in Osogbo on Thursday at a forum organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Sunday Akere boasted that “if election come today the PDP can never get 20 percent of the votes of the people of the state”.

According to the commissioner, the recent allegation of attempt to Islamize the state by Governor Rauf Aregbesola leveled by the state branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) was masterminded by the opposition party in order to discredit the present administration in the state.

His words: “there is no crisis between Governor Aregbesola and CAN as the so called crisis is just the figment imagination of the PDP, people who are hell bent in disrupting the peace being enjoyed in the state since Aregbesola came on board.

“On the claim that governor Aregbesola is supporting the wearing of Hijab by female Muslim students in Christian public schools, it is totally false. In December, Aregbesola provided school uniform to 750, 000 students in public schools and never distributed a single Hijab so why then should anybody now accuse him of supporting the use of Hijab in Christian public schools.

“It is a known fact that all schools in Osun became public schools since 1975 whether it is owned by Muslim, Christian or community and we have not altered or changed the guideline till date.

“In the cabinet of Osun today, there are 34 members, 25 of which are Christians appointed by Aregbesola. Out of 36 permanent secretaries in the state, there are 24 Christians with these figures it is clear to any discernable mind that Aregbesola has no such agenda.

“Today, Aregbesola administration has virtually turned the state into construction site with the level of works going on in all the parts of the state and I can assure you that PDP can never come back in Osun state.”

“If election come today, PDP can never get 20 percent of the total votes in Osun; they are not a threat to us at all because the people of the state knows who truly their friends and leaders are”.
