Wenger Confirms Interest In Lyon’s Grenier

Arsene Wenger has revealed his interest in Clement Grenier, who plays in Ligue 1 for Lyon.

The 22-year-old, who is a product of Lyon’s youth set-up, is highly regarded in France and has been picked ahead of Yohann Gourcuff this season.

“We are following him,” Wenger told Telefoot. “His intelligence of play pleases me. He has interesting qualities. He reminds me of Nasri.”

Naim Beneddra, Goal’s French correspondent had this to say about the midfielder. “Grenier is now considered one of the best hopes for French football. A product of the Lyon youth set-up, he’s made a meteoric rise to the first-team in two years and after a decent season last term, he’s been even better in 2012-13.

“He has been preferred to Yoann Gourcuff during important matches this season and his chief qualities include his free-kicks, and he scored a fantastic goal against Nice just last week. He is also renowned for his excellent vision, his ability to direct attacks and also to work for his team-mates. The only thing he lacks is consistency.

“The midfielder, a product of the club’s youth academy, has represented France at Under-21s level and featured regularly for his side throughout the 2012-13 Ligue 1 season.”
