The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Sunday
Akere, has charged parents and guardians in the state to assist
government in monitoring their children to ensure that the Tablet of
Knowledge (Opon Imo) given to them are handled with care.
Akere gave the charge yesterday at Obada Market in Ikirun and Ada in
Boripe Local Government Area during market rallies organized by the
Ministry of Information and Strategy to sensitize the people on government activities.
The Commissioner, who spoke through the Permanent Secretary of the
Ministry, Engr. Olusegun Aduroja, stressed that the State Government
under the leadership of Governor Rauf Aregbesola introduced the Tablet
of Knowledge in order to reduce the load of books and other learning
materials often carried by the students.
He stated that the government provided the tablet of knowledge to
students from SS1 to SS 2 in order to make learning more meaningful
and easier for them.
Akere then urged parents to support government to make the proramme a success in the state.
Also speaking, the Iyaloja of Obada market, Oloye Mary Oyebode advised market men and women to support the government in all its programmes especially on the provision of the tablet of knowledge (Opon Imo) adding that Governor Aregbesola’s administration introduced it in order to reduce the burden of parents in buying text books yearly for their children.
Among other activities of government mentioned at the market rally were the issues of school uniform and O’ Ambulance.
