The report of the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution was formally presented to the Senate in plenary session on Tuesday.
According to Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Chairman of the Committee on Constitution Review, some of the recommendations contained in the report are said to be inputs from stakeholders across Nigeria.
The Committee in its recommendations approved mayoral status for Federal Capital Territory, a single tenure of six years for President and Governors as well as mandating the President to attach portfolios to ministerial nominees.
The Senate however agreed to step down debate on the report pending when senators will resume from two weeks end of Legislative Year’s recess.
