In line with its resolve to ensure durability of the newly constructed roads in Ekiti State, the state government has directed the state Public Works Corporation to take over the maintenance of roads in the state.
The state Commissioner for Works and Transportation, Mr. Sola Adebayo, who made this known at a forum organised by the state Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation in Ado-Ekiti, said that the corporation has also been mandated to embark on the periodic clearing of verges on the roads in order to improve visibility and reduce preventable accidents.
Adebayo also disclosed that his ministry recently procured standard laboratory equipment worth N6.6 million being used to test materials to be used for road construction as part of efforts at ensuring that only high quality materials are used to construct roads in the state.
Noting that the state government was investing over N26 billion to complete over 30 road projects totaling 337 kilometers, he stressed that the Fayemi led administration would leave no stone unturned towards ensuring that the new road network is not only durable but also properly maintained.
He however appealed to residents not to burn tyres or pour petrochemicals and other substances that could shorten the live span of the new roads.
