It was a gory sight yesterday in Akure as a man took his life after allegedly killing his former wife earlier and the two lifeless bodies were found in the room of the deceased.
The body of the man, Jimoh Lateef, 47, was found hanging on the ceiling of his house locate in Akure while that of his ex-wife, 45 years old, Amudat, was found in the pool of her blood in the same room.
The deceased husband, a taxi driver, allegedly stabbed Amudat severally before he took his own life.
Investigations showed that the couple had been married for about 12 years and that the marriage which had since broken up, produced five children.
Amudat, a trader at Iloro Market, in Akure, hailed from Ijaraisin in Kwara State, while Jimoh was from Osogbo in Osun State.
It was gathered that Jimoh had on many occasions threatened to kill his wife and commit suicide thereafter.
It was learnt that Jimoh later approached a court that the marriage should be dissolved and the request was granted.
According to a source, the court asked two bailiffs to accompany Amudat to her husband’s house to enable her to pack her belongings.
But on getting to her husband’s house, he begged her and they both became emotional. It was learnt that Amudat picked few of her things and left.
She, however, went back to her ex-husband’s house on Saturday, only for her husband to allegedly kill her at his Omoniyi quarters along Agbogbo area on Owo-Benin-Akure Expressway.
One of the children of the deceased who was sent on an errand returned to meet his mum in the pool of her own blood and his father dangling from the ceiling of the house.
It was gathered that the child raised the alarm which attracted other residents.
The Chairman of the landlord association of Omoniyi quarters, Mr. Ojo oluwatayo, reported the case to Divisional Police Station in Ijapo.
The Divisional Police Officer, Jane Mbanefo, a Superintendent of Police, urged the public to assist the police by reporting such cases on time.
Jimoh’s uncle identified as Baba Labaika, said, “We have reported to the Deji of Akure and we want to bury Jimoh in his house while his ex-wife will be buried elsewhere.”
It was gathered that Jimoh had another wife who lives at Olufoam area of Akure.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Wole Ogodo, who confirmed the incident, urged the public to refrain from violence as a way of resolving disputes.
