A newly wedded couple and nine others yesterday died in Ibusa, near Asaba, Delta State, in an auto crash at the early hours.
Reports said that the driver of a bus belonging to the state-owned transport company, with registration number Delta Line 14C-1167DT, lost control of the vehicle and veered into the lane of a truck with registration number LSD989SD resulting in crash that took the lives of passengers in the bus.
FRSC spokesman, Mr. Julius Bassey, said that only two persons died, but eyewitnesses’ accounts said the Delta Line bus was destroyed beyond repair, adding that only few passengers survived the crash.
Road accidents on Ibusa, Ogwshi-Uku and Asaba-Benin expressway has remained a recurring decimal and are, in most cases, blamed on drivers’ recklessness with no fewer than 113 cases of road accidents recorded in the last two years.
The FRSC image maker disclosed that the corpses of the victims had been taken to FMC mortuary and called on drivers and other road users to always exercise caution while on the road .
Residents who rushed to scene told our correspondent that the driver of the Delta Line bus was to blame for the accident, justv as they lamented the death of the young couple.
Family sources said that the couple got married after the passing-out of the last batch of NYSC members earlier this month.
