A 21-year-old fuel station attendant, Arashi Lateef, has been arraigned before a Lagos Chief Magistrates’ Court, Oyingbo, for allegedly stealing N10 Million belonging to Geopetrol Station, located at Shapati Town, Lekki, Lagos.
The accused was arraigned on a two count-charge of conspiracy to commit felony and stealing.
The offences according to the prosecutor, ASP Etim Nkankum, are punishable under Section 409 and 258 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011.
The defendant was alleged to have conspired with another person, said to be at large, to steal the said amount between October 2012 and May, 2013, while working as station attendant of the company.
It was said that the defendant confessed to have stolen 700,000 litres of petroleum products, such as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) commonly called petrol, Automated Gasoline Oil (AGO) also known as diesel and kerosene from the ground tanks.
The alleged criminal act was said to have been revealed when an engineer contracted by Mr. AdeniyiAkewusola, the owner of the fuel station, to carryout maintenance work on the grounded tanks, discovered that some of the tanks were empty.
When the attendant was interrogated he allegedly confessed to have stolen 700, 000 litres of the products.
He was then handed over to the police at the Elemoro Division of the Nigeria Police for further investigation and prosecution.
