A pastor, Mr. Udoh Daniel, had more than what he bargained for recently when he was arrested by his wife, Mrs. Princess Daniel during a church service he was presiding over.
The pastor thus appeared before the Ikeja Customary Court on Monday and pleaded for the dissolution of his marriage after the incessant troubles and fights with his wife. He also informed the court how his wife has developed the habit of drinking and smoking in the presence of their children.
He told the court that their union was blessed with two issues, both females who are six and a year old.
Daniel said that his wife had accused him of kidnapping their two children because he was taking care of them after she left the house leaving the children behind.
“My wife accused me of kidnapping my two children because I was taking care of them. She therefore came to arrest me with six police men on illegal duty. They didn’t come in their uniforms although they wore police shirts and only one of them showed me his identity card,” he said.
He added that the moment they got to the police station and the policemen saw the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), they ran away leaving him there.
Daniel also told the court that his wife was wayward, troublesome, fights a lot, and embarrasses him in public.
“My wife embarrasses me every time. The other time, she came to church drunk and was misbehaving. Even my children don’t want to be with her because she smokes and drinks in their presence,” he said.
He also said that before she left his house, he tried to talk to her to stay, he even invited his family into the matter but his wife refused.
There were two witnesses in court that testified to what the pastor said.
The court president, Mr. Ayo Ipaye, ordered that the couple maintained peace and adjourned the case till September 17, 2013.
