Amuwo-Odofin LG’s Reaction To Allegation Of Operating Faceless Security Outfit (Full Text)

Our attention has been drawn to an online publication posted to Sahara Reporters with the misleading caption: “Festac Residents Raises Alarm over Excesses of Security Outfit, Call for Impeachment of Chairman”. Chairman, Chief Olaitan Ogunsanya and secretary, Comrade Harry Ogbuefi, on behalf of Festac Residents for Sanity (FRS), signed the said release.

The issues raised are pretty laughable and better left in the court of public opinion. Ordinarily, we do not want to join issues with an organization that is not recognized, the only recognized body, is the one chaired by Comrade Jola Ogunlusi known as Festac Town Residents Association (FTRA), but we have a responsibility to set the records straight for the good people of Amuwo Odofin Local Government in particular, Lagosians, Nigeria in general, in the defence of truth.

To say the least, the report did not only grossly misinform unsuspecting members of the public, it also portrays traces of campaign of calumny by some mercenary hirelings hell bent on derailing the good works of the present administration in Amuwo Odofin LG led by Comrade Ayodele Adewale. What is more, is that the report therein is not only false and misleading but also lacking in merit.

Having read with keen interest the completely self-serving spirited attempt to comprehensively misinterpret the true situation with respect to the report, it has become imperative and timely that the unsuspecting public be informed of the true situation.

It is on record that the local government has been maintaining and sustaining its environment and to achieve this purpose, more environmental laws and environmental task force was enacted by the legislative council of the local government, in conformity with the Lagos State Government law on the environment. The law includes protection of the green lawns and walkways, prohibiting trading and parking of cars at walkways and green zones, and prohibiting heavy duty vehicles in gaining entrance into Festac Town and other residential areas that have light roads amongst others.

It is however disturbing to note that, some residents and visitors alike are adamant in destroying our environment. A sorely case in hand, precisely on the 13th and 14th of October, 2013 was when men of the Nigeria Police, attached to the Area ‘E’ Commander, ACP Dan Okoro led a 40feet container driving through one-way and damaging the barricade. The destroyed barricade up till now has not been fixed by ACP Dan Okoro.

The fact is that the Lagos State Government has passed a law restricting movement of such heavy vehicle from entering residential areas including Festac Town. Please note that the Federal Government Law setting up Festac Town, prohibit such movement of heavy vehicles into Festac Town, for more information please contact the Federal Housing Authority.

It is however disturbing to note that, some residents, visitors alike and ACP Dan Okoro have refused to key in. The Local government has spent several millions of Naira, constructing, rehabilitating and maintaining Festac Roads, which ordinarily is out of its jurisdiction. Please note that Festac Town belongs to the Federal Government and it’s their duty to maintain it, what the local government is doing is just a compliment.

Presently,  the local government is battling tooth and knee to ensure that cars  are not parked wrongly and abandoned vehicles are cleared off the streets. It is disturbing to note that some People are resisting compliance. We cannot forget in a hurry how the likes of Tunde Lawal, Femi Tela, Da Green, a Mobile Police man in Festac Town, and others were crushed to death due to indiscriminate and wrongly parked heavy duty vehicles. For instance, if you visit the Festac Police station, you will see abandoned vehicles parked in front and along the station, along 2nd avenue precisely. This is totally uncalled for.

The Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Comrade Ayodele Adewale has repeatedly called on the Area ‘E’ Commander, ACP Dan Okoro to remove the abandoned vehicles in his domain despite that fact that the inspector general of police and Lagos State commissioner of police and the Governor of Lagos State have all directed the removal of these vehicles for our roads to be safe. Please also not that the chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government have made provision for the vehicles to be relocated to a land freely given to the police at first gate of Festac Town and this was made know at one of the monthly security council meeting presided by the Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government of which the Police, SSS, the Nigerian Army, Navy, NSCDC, LASMA, HRH Oba Latif Ado and several other stake holders in the Local Government are members. However, all these pleas have been falling on deaf ears.

On the issue of vigilante groups. The Local Government will like to state categorically and emphatically clear that, it is wrong for people who do not know about issues to conclude therein. None of the Man ‘O’ War engaged by the present administration are controlling traffic at the Lagos- Badagry Expressway. Man O war are not creations of the Local Government. We make bold to state that the council Man ‘O’ War are giving traffic situation in Festac town a facelift and complimenting the police whenever the need arises. Instead of condemning their activities, which we are not link to, they should be praised for doing a good job in Amuwo Odofin local government area, most especially along the Festac link bridge and Agboju market area.

It is important to state that, Sahara Reporters should verify these facts, as a matter of ethics and law and also verify the authenticity of this group. Sahara Reporters should not be used by agents of destruction, who are hell bent at destroying our environment and the good name of the Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Comrade Ayodele Adewale, a man who has brought massive transformation and sanity to the area.

Finally, the local government through this medium wishes to inform the general public to discard the report as a formal report have been made to the Commissioner of Police Lagos State and the Executive Governor of Lagos.
