US Consular Team Visits, Lauds Amuwo Odofin LG As Council Boss Participates In Climate-change Seminar In Poland

Amuwo Odofin Local Government once again played host to rare visitors. This time around the United States Consular Section team visited the local government.

On hand to receive them were the Head of Operations, Mr. Sultan Mcfoy; Supervisor for Market and Revenue, Hajia Fatima Adamu Bako; and other top management staff of the local government.

The essence of the visit among other things was on familiarization tour and to understudy marriage proceedings in the local government.

One of the members of the team, Mr. Bayo Oluwasojo stated that they were also at the local government to discuss the new initiative of E-marriage and its features. In his words, “since we are new in this section, we came to see the marriage certificate, the signature on it and marriage proceedings.”

After the tour of the local government, the team was full of praises for the Comrade Ayodele Adewale administration. “What we have seen so far is quite impressive. We have been to other local governments in Lagos State but this local government stands out”.

Responding, Mr. Sultan Mcfoy Alabi thanked them for the rare visit, and the encouraging words, noting that it would propel them to do more.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Comrade Ayodele Adewale is attending a United Nations Summit on Climate Change COP 19 in Warsaw, Poland. Comrade Ayodele Adewale was among other Mayors of the world at a program organized by the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP 19/ CMP9 Warsaw, Ministry of the Environment Warsaw of the city of Warsaw and ICLEI at the Warsaw dialogue on scaling-up local and sub-national climate action on the  20th of November, where he was a member of the panelist to discourse on the subject matter chaired by Mr. David Cadman, President of ICLEI, Hanna Gronkiewicz- Waltz, Mayor of Warsaw, Dr. Asia Kacyira- Deputy Executive Director of UN-Habitat and former Mayor of Kigali in Ruanda, Mr. George Heartwell-Mayor of Grand Rapids, R.A Rajiv, Environment Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, India and Penny Ballem, City Manager of Vancouver, Canada. The program took place at the Museum of History of the Polish Jews, National Stadium, Warsaw, Poland .

Comrade Ayodele Adewale also presented the Amuwo Odofin experience on mitigation and adaptation on climate change at the COP19 event, where he reiterated the importance of tree planting , which according to him, “is the most effective way of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and regulating the climate.”

He further  stressed that the  involvement of children and youths are very important in sustaining the campaign on best practice and care for the environment. He was later taking on a tour of the Polish Jewish Museum and after which he was hosted to a dinner.
