It was a day of singing, dancing and rejoicing on Thursday at the Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) secretariat in Lagos as the Jide Jimoh administration dazzled the people of the area with another range of powerful people empowerment programme.
At the event, the Chairman of the LCDA, Hon. Jide Jimoh, distributed six buses and two generators for various categories of people in the local council area.
The buses were donated to the Community Development Committee (CDC) of the council, the market men and women, the Neighbourhood Watch of the LCDA and the Project Monitoring Unit of the LCDA’s Works Department.
The six buses alone is over N20million which is he uses them to assist them in terms of movement and mobility.
Jimoh also donated generating sets to two Community Development Associations (CDAs) which have earlier been provided with boreholes but due to irregularity of power supply, they have not been enjoying the service of the boreholes. The generating sets were thus provided to power the boreholes. The boreholes are located at All Saints Primary School and Ottun Street, all in Yaba.
Speaking at the event, the Yaba LCDA boss said the idea to provide the buses was to help the beneficiaries in boosting their mobility and ease their work.
“The beneficiaries are our people and some of them provide essential service hence we want to ease their movement and mobility with these buses,” he said.
Jimoh stated further that there would be logistic for the maintenance of the vehicles “in terms of maintenance, we would provide logistics to maintain them”.
He commended the people of the council area for their support and cooperation. He however, sought for more adding that: “Like Oliver Twist, we will continue to ask for more. Prompt payment of taxes and dues engender development and provision of dividends of democracy like the one we are witnessing now. Therefore, I will urge you all not to relent in their support and cooperation with us. Prompt payment of taxes and dues is one way to show support and cooperation for us and this will go a long way in assisting us to provide the necessary dividends of democracy”.
