Senate President, Senator David Mark, has commended the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the superlative performance at the CHAN 2014 competition in South Africa.
The Nigerian representatives on Saturday evening beat their Zimbabwean counterparts by a lone goal to win the bronze medal in the competition after losing on penalties to arch rivals, Black Stars of Ghana on Wednesday in the semi final.
According to Mark, “although Nigeria did not win the prized trophy, the good outings of the Super Eagles cannot be wished away.
“All that the Stephen Keshi led coaching crew needs to do is to work on the identified shortcomings and improve on them before the next competition.
“Our boys did well, they improved significantly from every game. They were a few mistakes but we had a good outing. Our opponents also recognized and appreciated that Nigeria is solid and cannot be pushed aside in the game of soccer”.
He therefore urged the Aminu Maigari led Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to put necessary measures in place to ensure that the players are well motivated and adequately trained before the forthcoming engagement.
The National Assembly, Senator Mark assured, is conscious about the over all sports development in Nigeria saying that deliberate efforts would be made to give sports appropriate allocation in the 2014 budget.
He added that sports have proven to be the needed ingredients to oil the wheel of the nation’s unity and peaceful coexistence stressing that “we must not compromise on this”.
