Against the background of criticisms on the 2015 general elections timetable, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, said the timetable for the 2015 general election recently announced by the Commission was informed by rational and logical considerations, not sentimental or ulterior motivations.
However, the governors of the All Progressive Congress (APC) criticised the timetable, stating that it was induced by the Presidency.
But INEC in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Kayode Idowu said that the Commission was mindful of its own operational effectiveness and global best practice in grouping national elections together in one day, and state elections together on another.
INEC announced two week ago the timetable for the National Assembly and Presidential elections for February 14, 2015, and Governorship as well as State Assembly elections for February 28, 2015.
