An Osun State High Court sitting in Ilesa has sentenced a police Sergeant, Adamu Baruwa, to death by hanging for murder.

Sergeant Baruwa was arraigned over his involvement in the death of one  Kehinde Awoyedo who was shot dead at Ilesa, Osun State, southwest Nigeria.

Baruwa was said to have shot Kehinde Awoyedo with AK-47 rifle at Ilesa  on 20th August 2008.

He was arraigned on May 11, 2012 and entered into a not guilty plea to the one count charge of murder pressed against him by the state prosecution.

The prosecution team from the state Ministry of Justice led by Barr. Moses Faremi, according to the judge, had proved beyond doubt that the trigger-happy policeman shot and killed Awoyedo.

The prosecution had during the hearing called five witnesses including the relatives of the deceased and the duo of Amos Awoyelu and Akintola Awoyelu among others.

A consultant pathologist at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, Dr. Omoniyi Esan, had presented to the court the post mortem report of the deceased and equally gave evidence on the cause of Awoyedo’s gruesome death.

The presiding judge,  Justice AbdulRasazak AbdulKareem sentenced Sergeant Adamu Baruwa to death owing to the convincing evidences made available by the prosecution.

Delivering his judgement, Justice AbdulKareem sentenced the convict to death by hanging to serve as deterrent to other trigger-happy rank and file of the workforce like Awoyedo.
