CAN Tasks Security Agencies To Prevent Boko Haram’s Incursion Into Other Parts Of Nigeria

By Timothy Agbor, Osogbo

Following last Sunday attempt by some persons suspected to be Boko Haram members to bomb a branch of Living Faith Church in Imo State, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has stressed the need for security agencies to beef up security and surveillance in the country in order to forestall incursion of Boko Haram sect to other parts of the country.

The Chairman of CAN in Osun State, Reverend Elisha Ogundiya, while speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Tuesday, 17th June, 2014 called on security agencies in the country to deploy more men to prevent members of the Boko Haram sect from gaining access into the southwest and other parts of the country.

Although, Ogundiya noted that security operatives in Osun State are trying, he stated that security arrangements needed to be reinforced and improved upon to be able to prevent terrorists from moving down South for their deadly attacks.

The CAN chairman said that the attempt by some persons to bomb a branch of Living Faith Church in Imo State should make everybody to think that members of the Boko Haram were bent on destabilizing every part of the country.

His words: “as far as  Osun State is concerned, security operatives are at alert and we have held meetings with them in the past. We know they are trying but there is need for reinforcement.

“We need reinforcement now more especially because of the elections coming in Ekiti and Osun States. Criminals can hide under any guise to wreck havoc but we must all work together to ensure that we do not allow terrorists  to shift their base here”.

Ogundiya however advised members of the public to be security conscious saying “with the situation on the ground now, I believe everybody should be security conscious. We must all monitor the activities of our neighbours so that we would not habour criminals without knowing it.”
