The Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area, Hon Jide Jimoh, has urged residents of the council area to sanitise their environment, stressing that it contributes enormously to global warming.
He made this known at the council secretariat over the weekend during a courtesy visit by the Foundation For A Better Environment (FABE) to commemorate the 2014 World Environment Day.
The Yaba LCDA Chairman who was represented by the council’s Supervisor for Environment, Bola Aileru said “The theme for this year World Environmental Day Celebration: ‘Raise your voice, not the sea level’, means that we must work together to educate and create awareness about the danger of littering the environment”.
He disclosed that environmental problems like contamination by industrial and commercial chemical waste, carbon emission is harmful to both human being and animals.
“Our seas are rapidly rising because of pollution and carbon emission. Our area is a bit far from the sea and as result we may not experience the effect of global warming in our life time, however littering of environment is also a serious factor.
“You can see that our environment in Yaba LCDA is clean because we put appropriate measure in place to sanitised our environment.
“With this environmental problems, I urge all to make concerted efforts to control our waste and not throwing dirt into drainages or canal”.
Speaking earlier, the President of Foundation For A Better Environment (FABE), Miss Temitope Aderigbigbe, said they embarked on the awareness campaign to establish an environmentally conscious generation who will have an attitudinal change towards restoring and not degrading the environment.
