Tension continues to rise in Ekiti State over reports that prominent members and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be arrested and kept in the cooler by security operatives posted to the state for the governorship election taking place on Saturday, 21st June, 2014.
The latest is the report that the Chief Security Officer, (CSO) of Mr Ayodele Fayose, the PDP candidate in the Ekiti Election, Mr Kayode Adeoye addressed a combination of 80 soldiers and men of the State Security Service (SSS) on the evening of Thursday, 19th June, 2014, allegedly giving them instructions to begin a massive clampdown on top officials of the All Progressive Congress (APC) at dawn of Friday, 20th June, 2014, eve of the election.
Kayode with the rank PS10 allegedly addressed the SSS and soldiers behind an eatery in Ado Ekiti late Thursday, 19th June, 2014, around 7.15. He was reported to have come in a sports car.
The soldiers and SSS operatives who are members of the Special Task Force from Abuja came in tainted vehicles. He told the soldiers and SSS operatives: ‘You are being paid by the Federal Government of Nigeria. This is a Federal Government election. President Goodluck Jonathan has decreed that the election be rigged in favour of Mr Fayose. He has asked you to arrest APC leaders and put them in the cooler. You are expected to report tomorrow by 6am (Friday)”, one eatery official who eavesdropped on the conversation told our reporter.
Kayode promised the operatives huge sum of money. He also told the operatives that he has a list of 200 people who are members of APC and prominent community leaders who support the APC.
Some of the soldiers had challenged Kayode telling him they could not understand why he should be the one giving orders to soldiers and the SSS when he is only the CSO to one of the gubernatorial candidates. One of the European Union observers, Mr Kerry John who at the eatery at the time, was also reported to have overheard the conversation and has allegedly passed the information to the European Union.
