Less than five hours after the All Progressive Congress (APC) lost the governorship election in Ekiti state, almost 800 members of the party decamped to the Labour Party (LP) in Ogun State on Sunday, 21st June, 2014.
The event which took place at Empire ground, Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of the state, southwest Nigeria, had in attendance the state leader of the party, Otunba Gbenga Daniel; the LP state Chairman, Comrade Niyi Osoba; and party leaders among others.
Speaking at the meeting, the state party Chairman, Comrade Niyi Osoba, said APC government is a forgotten government in the state.
“We all witnessed what happened in Ekiti State on Saturday, the people of Ekiti state voted out All Progressive Congress because their government is making life difficult for the masses, people are suffering under them, no employment, drugs are not available in our hospitals and the education sector under them is nothing to write home about,” he said.
He noted that by God’s grace, the Labour Party will win the governorship and other elective positions in Ogun state in 2015.
He advised party members to start house to house campaign in earnest so that the party can be victorious in the coming election.
The state leader of the party, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, while addressing the gathering, used the just concluded governorship election in Ekiti state as a case study.
“You will be surprised that we are in Labour Party but are happy that APC lost Ekiti governorship election.
As you all know, the party we all belong to in Ogun state is Amosun Must Go (AMG).
“When we were in government you all know what we did. Later, people said they want change but now we have all seen that it’s not the type of change they want that occurred and now people are ready to change the change.
“As I’ve always said there is no quarrel between those of us in Labour Party and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun state, reason being that all of us are working for President Goodluck Jonathan.
“Everything that is called PDP in Ogun state today is OGD,” he said.
He noted that, “by God’s grace come 29th May, 2015 we will have cause to celebrate at MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta”.
Part of the event was the decamping of hundreds of members of APC in Imeko Afon led by Mr Abutagbeseoogunowo to Labour Party.
Also, hundreds of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members led by a former Chairman of the party in Yewa North Local Government, Mr Adesina Adegbenro decamped to Labour Party at the meeting.
