The Ogun State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Adegoke Adetunji, has listed speed limit and telephone rule violations as top road traffic offences in Ogun State.
He said this in an interview in Abeokuta on Monday.
Adetunji, said following closely on the heels of over speeding and making telephone calls while driving was violation of crash helmet requirement by commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada riders.
He said, “The violation of speed limit and use of telephone topped the road traffic offences by motorists in Ogun State since I assumed duty last September.
“The next one to these two is the violation of the use of crash helmets by Okada riders.”
Adetunji, who however said most of the motorists within the metropolis were complying with the seat belt rule, noted that passengers in commercial cars and buses were still not cooperating enough in this area.
He added, “What we have discovered is that the drivers of these commercial taxi and buses have to appeal to them to put on the seat belts.”
To make sure motorists imbibe road safety culture, Adetunji said the command had embarked on public enlightenment on both electronic and print media while it had also started paying visits to churches and mosques to talk to the congregation on road safety.
