Twenty four hours after the bomb blast in Kano which claimed the lives of 120 people, the nation was saved another anguish on Saturday, 29th November, 2014 when about 40 passengers and crew of a Lagos bound Overland aircraft escaped death in Ilorin when the plane crash landed at the Ilorin airport.
Among passengers on board of the aircraft thegazellenews.com reliably gathered was a member of the House of Representatives, Ali Dodo; and former Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin and now Secretary General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Professor Ishaq Oloyede.
The incident which took place around 4.35 pm threw the entire Ilorin International Airport into panic as firefighters were called in to put out any fire outbreak.
The plane was Lagos bound but needed to stop over in Ilorin to drop passengers and at the same time pick Lagos bound passengers. It was also expected to stop over in Ibadan after leaving Ilorin to drop and pick passengers.
thegazellenews.com learnt that when the plane, piloted by one Captain Champer was about to land, it could not get its front tyres off leading to the incident. It took the ingenuity of the pilot to divert the plane into a thick bush a the airport which apparently prevented any fire outbreak.
