Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu and 17 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers of the state House of Assembly have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The event took place on the afternoon of Wednesday, 26th November, 2014 in Birnin Kebbi, capital of the state.
With the defection of the Deputy Governor and the 17 lawmakers, the ruling PDP now has only four legislators in the state House of Assembly.
The defection is a big blow to the state Governor, Usman Dakingari; President Goodluck Jonathan; and the PDP.
The president was in Kebbi on Tuesday, 25th November, 2014 to commission an international airport.
The implication of the defection was that the PDP is fast losing relevance and control in the northwest, the most populous region in the country.
Kano, Zamfara, Sokoto and now Kebbi are under the firm control of the APC with the states like Katsina and Kaduna almost likely to follow.
