By Timothy Agbor, Osogbo

A 37-year-old operative of the State Security Service (SSS), Busari Taofeek was on Friday, 28th November, 2014 dragged before an Osogbo Magistrate Court for allegedly killing a member of the Nigeria Police Force, Corporal Wahab Abdul in Ile-Ife, Osun State, southwest Nigeria.

The SSS member was said to have used his service pistol to shoot the victim on his head killing Abdul instantly.

The charge sheet obtained in court revealed that Taofeek had shot into the air before hitting Corporal Abdul while in the house of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Mr Elisha Olusegun while addressing the court, the horrible incident happened at about 9:40pm on 18th, August, 2014.

The charge sheet read in part: “That you Busari Taofeek Adeoye on the 18th day of August 2014 at about 2140hrs at Senator Iyiola house along Ede Road, Ile-Ife in the Ile-Ife Magisterial District sitting in Osogbo did shoot into the air your service pistol with No- 20003958 which hit one Corporal Wahab Abdul on his head which caused his death.”

The prosecution argued that Taofeek thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol. 11 Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.

The plea of the accused person could not be taken by the court after the charges pressed against him were read to him due to the nature of the offence.

The accused’s counsel, Mrs. Nnenna Ngwu was present in court.

Meanwhile, the presiding Magistrate Olusola Aluko interrogated the Police Prosecutor on the reason why the accused was kept in the custody for more than twenty-four hours as stated by the constitution.

Elisha then replied the Magistrate saying the State Police command was awaiting the order of the Inspector General of Police before the suspect could be brought to court.

Aluko however ordered that Taofeek be remanded in Ilesa prison custody and ruled that the case be transferred to the Magistrate Court sitting in Ile-Ife area of the state.

The case was adjourned till 15th, December, 2014 for mention.
