Abducted UNIOSUN ASUU Chairman’s Wife Released

The wife of the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Mrs. Olufunmilayo Abiona, has been released by the kidnappers who abducted her.

The ASUU chairman in the university, Dr. Seye Abiona, confirmed the release of his wife to our correspondent on the telephone on Tuesday, 23rd December, 2014.

He said that his wife was released by her abductors along Ilesa-Akure Expressway on the afternoon of Tuesday, 23rd December, 2014.

He said that he was happy because his wife was not injured by those who abducted her at Ilesa Garage area of Osogbo on the night of Friday, 19th December, 2014.

Abiona said that two members of the gang were arrested by security operatives.

The family was said to have gone and dropped the ransom at a place agreed by the abductors and the police swooped on the gang and arrested two of them.

He said, “Yes, my wife has been released! She was released this afternoon around Ilesa-Akure Expressway.”

The Deputy Vice Chancellor of UNIOSUN, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, who first confirmed  the release of Olufunmilayo to our correspondent said that the university community was happy because the woman was freed without being harmed by her captors.
