The Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) has reacted to a report by Governor Ayodele Fayose’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, linking former Governor Kayode Fayemi with one Charles Ojo Owvie, who was Fayose’s supporter during his first stint as the governor of the state.
Olayinka was speaking Tuesday, 2nd December, 2014 on a live television programme on Monday, 1st December, 2014 jail break in Ado-Ekiti. He linked APC with the crime, specifically mentioning one Charles Ovie, a notorious criminal as an ally of APC leaders.
But APC state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, said Olayinka’s claim is a deliberate falsehood to deceive Ekiti people and cast Fayemi in an image of a sponsor of crime.
He said if the purported police report Olayinka flashed on the television was actually authored by the police authorities, then Olayinka had come to expose his boss to the world as the man who equipped Charles to commit many crimes in Ekiti State before he was arrested.
The APC spokesman noted that Olayinka misfired in the handling of his media propaganda for his boss by not recognising the fact that several people were in possession of the purported police report he brought to the television to launder his boss’ image while his opponent was presented as the sponsor of crimes.
“Paragraph Five of the purported report that Olayinka flashed on the television screen succinctly indicted Fayose as Charles Ovie’s close ally and benefactor. The purported police report allegedly written by former Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Sabo Ibrahim Ringim, dated April 2, 2010, linked Fayose directly with Charles Ovie.
“In the paragraph, the report said: “During the regime of Ayodele Fayose as the Governor of Ekiti State, Charles Ojo was appointed into the local government system on the instruction of the then Governor to assist him in viz: To carry out some dirty and unprintable acts; Mr. Fayose was not relating to Charles directly but through Goke Olatunji, his personal assistant. That Charles Ojo assassinated Mr. Kehinde Fasuuba by order of Mr. Fayose to discredit the ruling party (PDP) in Ekiti Goverrnment.”
Olatubosun said even though all these were in the realm of allegations in that purported police report, if it was truly authored by the police authorities, then reasonable people should know who Charles Ovie was and who were his sponsors.
“It is a matter of common sense to conclude that, if there was no crime during the tenure of Governor Fayemi but a sudden upsurge in crime now that Governor Fayose assumed office, it means that Fayemi is not a promoter of crime while Fayose’s government is crime friendly,” Olatunbosun said.
He said instead of treading the path of sincerity in tackling security issues, Olayinka was manipulating a purported police report to deceive Ekiti people and implicate the opposition.
“Ekiti people know all the tricks by the government. They are used to ridiculous lies as essential tool of governance, but they are not deceived. Ekiti people will accept nothing less than the security of their lives. One question that Nigerians should help ask Governor Fayose is; why is he specifically requesting the police authorities in Abuja to post back to Ekiti State all the police officers that once worked with him and who were indicted by the SSS report as having hands in several crimes in Ekiti State when Fayose was the governor?
