Detectives from the Osun State Police Command are on the trail of the gunmen who abducted the wife of the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Osun State University (UNIOSUN) chapter, Mrs. Funmilayo Abiona.
This is coming as the men of the Police are working on intelligence gathering concerning the N50 million ransom allegedly being demanded by the gun-wielding hoodlums from the husband, Dr. Oluseye Abiona.
Investigation conducted revealed that the state Police Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Marafa has discreetly ordered the detectives to work round the clock to ensure that the victim was rescued unhurt.
It would be recalled that the fierce-looking hoodlums numbering about five on the evening of Friday, 19th December, 2014 kidnapped Funmilayo.
The victim was said to have closed from her shop located at the junction leading to the university along Ibokun road, Oke-Baale, Osogbo and was heading home in an unregistered lexus ES 330 ash colour salon car before her abductors blocked her and eventually whisked her away in their vehicle.
An eye witness account revealed that Funmilayo engaged the hoodlums in hot altercation and was even said to have slapped one of the captors.
In the ensuing battle, the abductors smashed the rear wind screen of her vehicle in anger and dragged her into their red coloured vehicle and drove her away leaving her two children in the car.
The state Police Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Marafa who confirmed the incident through the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs. Folasade Odoro (DSP), said it was true that the hoodlums were demanding for undisclosed amount of money from the husband adding that the command was gathering intelligence report on the ransom being demanded by the hoodlums.
While soliciting for the cooperation of the husband and her relations so that the police could carry out discrete security operation on the matter, the Police Commissioner assured the people and the relation that men of the command would carry out a thorough job on the incident.
Though, efforts to speak with the husband have been futile, it was learnt that the hoodlums called Dr. Oluseye to demand for N50million assuring him that his wife was safe where she was being kept.
The Osun state police boss said that all strategies had been deployed to ensure that the victim was rescued and returned to her family.
