Former England striker Michael Owen has revealed that he believes ex-Arsenal forward Thierry Henry is the best player to ever grace the Premier League.
England’s top tier has attracted the world’s finest talent since its inception due to a pulsating brand of football and attractive wages. There is a host of prestigious names to have featured on these shores over the course of the division’s history that are difficult to choose between.
However, the former England striker is adamant that the Frenchman eclipses any of his rivals.
Michael Owen is a BT Sport commentator and was speaking on Football Tonight: “Thierry Henry, for me. We go back to that era and he was unplayable. He had something so special.
“He could run off the pitch and run back on and still run past you; he was a different class,” Owen declared.
Henry is idolised in north London as he remains Arsenal’s top goal scorer of all time and played played a key role in their ‘Invincibles’ season.
Meanwhile, current boss Arsene Wenger has recently admitted that one of the club’s favourite sons could return to the Emirates Stadium in some capacity in the future.
The 37-year-old could yet retire from the game after confirming his departure from MLS side New York Red Bulls last week. However, even though his future is now uncertain, Henry’s place in history is certainly secured.
