Removal Of Candidate’s Name Hightens Protest In Osun APC

By Timothy Agbor, Osogbo

Protests continued to rock the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state over alleged plan of the leadership of the party to impose candidates against the wishes of party members in the coming general elections.

It was gathered that the leadership of the party under the chairmanship of Prince Gboyega Famoodun has allegedly removed Hon Abiodun Awolola’s name who is vying for a seat in the state House of Assembly on the list that was announced earlier and replaced it with that of Hon Kola Ajao, who has served two terms in the state Assembly.

Aggrieved members of APC from Egbedore Local Government Area of the state while armed with placards with various inscriptions stormed the state Government House on Thursday, 18th December, 2014 demanding to see Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the state and complain to him.

The angry protesters stood their grounds and refused to vacate the Government House when the security operatives attached to the Governor’s House located along Ilobu road, Oke-fia, Osogbo attempted to chase them away.

Some of the inscriptions on the placards wielded by the protesters read: “Awolola is our choice”; “With Awolola, victory is sure. “The man of people is Awolola,” among others.

The aggrieved APC members also chanted various songs to drive home their points as they warned Governor Aregbesola against conniving with the other party leaders to impose candidates on the party members.

The protesters, however, threatened to vote for another party during the 2015 general elections should Governor Aregbesola insisted on imposing candidates of his choice on them.

While the protest ensued, the party chairman in the state narrowly escaped being attacked by the protesters while trying to gain entry into the government house.
Famoodun had to reverse his car immediately and sped off when he saw the protesters.

Speaking with our correspondent, one Adesoye Tajudeen, narrated that all the party members have voted for Hon Abiodun Awolola, before his name was removed from the list and replaced with Ajao’s.

He said the protest was against the party leaders like Hon Omolaoye and Baba Ajao, who he said have favoured Ajao to contest for the House of Assembly election against the wish of the people he would be representing.

Another leader of the party from the Local Government, Debo Oparinde, called on party leaders to caution Governor Aregbesola against losing the state to the opposition in the coming election.

It would be recalled that APC chairman in the state, Famoodun recently, announced the names of those that will contest the 2015 election into the state Assembly and National Assembly which some aggrieved members of the party said was against the guidelines and constitution of the party as primary election was not allowed.
