Dapo Abiodun Lights Up Ogun Waterside Community; Pays Multi-million Naira For Power Restoration

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ogun East Senatorial District, Prince Dapo Abiodun has paid N25 million being the first tranche of the N50 million needed to provide power supply to Ogun Waterside communities.

He presented the cheque to the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona who handed it over to the Corporate Affairs Manager of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), the power distribution company in charge of the state, Mrs. Bolanle Onagoruwa.

The people of Ogun Waterside local government had been in darkness for over two years due to poor connection, bad cables and faulty equipment.

Prince Abiodun had at the commencement of his political campaign asked the people in different towns and communities in the senatorial district to prioritise their challenges.

It was then he discovered that communities in the Ogun Waterside have been suffering from total power outage for over two years.

After talks with the power company, the APC chieftain offered to assist the firm with N50 million to enable it restore power supply to the affected communities.

“Prince Dapo Abiodun took it upon himself to partner with us and basically told us that his objective is that those Waterside communities should have power supply. We submitted the quotation to him which covers what we call the 33KVA line. It’s quite a long line that will end up in the Waterside. By the time we fix the line, there would be power supply in the area. Along the line, there are what we call T-off lines into various communities in the area. The bill that we sent to Prince Abiodun included those communities because we want to ensure robust network.

“We appreciate the partnership and we assure that we will add our own and our contractors are set to ensure we deliver as scheduled”, Mrs Onagoruwa stated at the brief ceremony held mid-week with no fewer than seven traditional rulers from Ogun Waterside in attendance at the Awujale’s palace, Ijebu-Ode.

The Awujale expressed his displeasure about the services of the power distributing company, complaining about incessant power outage in Ijebuland as a result of obsolete equipment and lack of maintenance.

He, however, tasked the company to ensure that the work is done within the 30-day time-frame agreed with the APC candidate.

Commenting on the gesture, Oba Adetona declared that such was unprecedented, adding that the efforts being made by the politician are indications of what to expect when he gets to office.

He, therefore, charged all the traditional rulers in Ijebuland, particularly those from the Waterside to spread the news about the gesture and compensate him (Dapo Abiodun) with their votes during the February 14 election.

“Alayeluwas, you would now go back home and spread this news to our people about our power supply. One good turn deserves another. We are not ingrates. So, you can be sure Dapo we will give our commitment and support for you and God will see you through.

“And when you get there you would be able to discharge your responsibilities not only to us in Ogun East Senatorial District but to the whole nation,” the Awujale added.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiary communities, the Onisin of Ilusin, Oba Adesanya Taiwo Oseni stated that “the power project is the most important thing we desire in the Waterside. Our sons and daughters don’t come home during festive periods and their major complain is power. supply. As this project is done, Prince Dapo Abiodun has written his name in gold in Ogun Waterside.

“We are highly appreciative of what you have done for us. This is not for us only but for Ijebuland, Ogun State and the nation in general.

“People say the morning shows what the evening would be, you have started very well, when we leave here we are going to spread the news to all nooks and crannies of Ogun Waterside and we are assuring you that you will get our maximum cooperation.”
