The police in Lagos on Wednesday, 4th March, 2015, assured residents of the readiness of the command to work in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure hitch free elections as well as peaceful pre and post election periods in the state.
Speaking with journalists after the state security council meeting presided over by Governor Babatunde Fashola SAN, at the Lagos House, Marina, the state Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operation, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, said the police and other security agencies were ready to ensure the security of the state.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, who said the matter was discussed extensively at the security council meeting, told journalists that the state police command and other security agencies have put in place adequate strategies to ensure hitch free elections and adequate peace before, during and after the general elections in the state.
Reacting to the incident that happened in Oshodi two weeks ago, the Police boss said security has since been beefed up in the area with Armored Personnel Carriers stationed in strategic locations adding that the incident would never recur.
“Already security has been beefed up all over the place; if you go there now you will see things for yourself. We have in place Armored Personnel Carriers, we have adequate number of Police Mobile Force units deployed there along with Intelligence officers who are collecting information to ensure that before any evil plans are carried out we would have gotten information; meaning that proactive measures are in place’’, he said.
The Deputy Police Commissioner was accompanied at the press briefing by other members of the security council including Commander NNS Beecroft, Olokun Apapa, Navy Commodore Teikum Ikoli, Commander Airforce Base Ikeja, Air Commodore Lere Osanyintolu, Commander 9 Mechanized Brigade, Major General Ahmed Mohammed Sabo, Director State Security Service, Mr. Ben Olayi and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Major Tunde Panox (Rtd).
