The battle for who succeeds the present Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Sabit Adeyemi Ikuforiji, cotinues to rage within and outside the Assembly complex with aspiraatns lobbying their colleagues and party leaders to support their ambition.
One of the strong contenders for the seat, Honourable Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, representing Agege State Constituency 1, told thegazellenews.com on Thursday, 23rd April, 2015 in an exclusive interview that although he is aspiring for the speakership seat, he is not despwrate for it.
“Yes, I want to be Speaker but I’m not desprate about it. For me, it is not a do or die affair,” Obasa told this medium in his office on Thursday, 23rd April, 2015.
Obasa, Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Budget and Economic Planning, told our correspondent that aspiring for a position of authority is the legitimate right of anybody but such aspiration should not be turn into desperation and a do-or-die affair.
He however, stated that despite not being desprate, he believes he is most qualified among his colleagues to occupy the office.
“In terms of experience, I’m most qualified and experienced to be the Speaker. I’m coming in for my fourth term and how many of them has experience as a lawmaker at the grassroots level? None! I was not only an elected councillor at Agege Local Government for three years, I was also the Deputy Leader of the council’s Legislative Arm,” he said.
Obasa stated further that for all the time he has spent in the Addembly, he has been an influential member contrinuting his quota to the development and growth of the Assembly.
“I may not have hold any principal office but I can say with all sense of modesty that I have always contributed in no small measures to various appointments in the Assembly,” he said.
