For the 20 new incoming members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, these are certainly the best of times as they have become the beautiful brides being courted for support by aspirants for the seat of the Speaker in the coming 8th Assembly.
In the 8th Assembly, 20 out of the 40 members are new members while the remaining 20 are returning.
Out of the 20 returning members, three are fourth timers, six are third timers while 11 are second timers.
Within the returning members, there are several caucuses jostling for support hence the need to court the support of the new members particularly the eight coming from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Already, some of the aspirants have been meeting with the new members not only promising them juicy committees but also showering money, local and foreign on them.
Thegazellenews.com learnt that two of the aspirants from the Lagos Central Senatorial District have met with the new members and distribute dollars among them.
The two lawmakers are second timers.
Another aspirant from the Lagos West Senatorial District has also met with the new members, splashing dollars on them while another aspirant also from Lagos West paid for the return tickets of the new members to Abuja when the lawmakers had their induction course last week.
When one of the affected lawmakers, a second timer, was asked why he had to give out dollars, he told his colleagues that he did so because his rivals were doing it.
