Exclusive! New Twists In Lagos Speakership Race: Court Case Stops Eshinlokun; Yisawu Makes U-turn, Revives Ambition; Agunbiade Wants Dep Speaker

Sabit Adeyemi Ikuforiji, out-going Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly

The race for who will succeeds Sabit Adeyemi Ikuforiji as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly in the coming 8th Assembly continues to get new twist by the day.

On Monday, 25th May, 2015, a Court of Appeal in Lagos adjourned the case between incumbent lawmaker, Hakeem Masha; and the incoming one, Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni to Monday, 16th June, 2015 for hearing.

With the court case effectively commencing, the speakership ambition of Eshinlokun might have been dashed as the new Assembly would be inaugurated in the first week of June and with his case in court Eshinlokun may not stand for nomination.

Another twist to the race is that another contestant, Gbolahan Yisawu  who had earlier stepped down for Lanre Oshun has made a sharp 360 degree u-turn to revive his ambition, learnt that some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos Central Senatorial District have ordered him to revive his ambition.

An earlier meeting of the Lagos Central leaders have endorsed Oshun as the sole candidate of the zone for the post.

In another twist, Sanai Agunbiade another aspirant who stepped down has indicated his intention to run for the Deputy Speakership office.

To this effect, learnt that he has been distributing his letter of intent among his colleagues seeking their support.

Another  meeting Lagos Central leaders took place on the night of Monday,25th May, 2015, we will keep you posted on the outcome.
