Residents of Ijebu Ode Local Government have been advised to co-operate with the government by ensuring their environment is clean all the time.
The Chairman, Transition Committee of the local government, Barrister A.A. Baruwa gave this advice while speaking with our correspondent in his office at Ijebu Ode.
Baruwa noted that it is bad that some residents of the local government keeps refuse at home for a period of one month waiting for the monthly environmental sanitation day before bringing them out.
“There is no doubt about the fact that government is suppose to find solution to the problems of our people and that is why the government is looking at ways through which refuse can be daily collected and dispose rather than waiting till the end of the month.
“We are looking at a situation where the refuse will be collected through Public Private Partnership and presently the modalities are being worked out” he said.
He noted that residents will have to part with a token when they start the daily collection of the refuse but noted that it is better to part with N200 looking at the hazard of keeping this refuse at home without disposing them for weeks because the odour that comes out of a refuse that has been kept for two or three weeks is not good and dangerous to the health.
He questioned why people keep refuse at home for almost a month risking the life of their family members particularly the children whose immune system against diseases are not yet strong.
In conclusion, he was full of appreciation to the state government under the leadership of Senator Ibikunle Amosun for providing more than five refuse disposal vehicles which according to him have been working daily to ensure the environment is kept clean always.
“If not for the refuse disposal vehicles provided by the state government, the situation would have been worse because they work daily parking refuse on our major roads. We appreciate the governor for this gesture and pray Allah continue to strengthen him” he said.
