The ongoing music fiesta being taken round Nigeria by the country’s next generation network, Globacom, tagged ‘Slide ‘n’ Bounce’ rocked Benin City, Edo State at the weekend, giving fun-seekers something to talk about for a long time.
Residents of the city and its environs, who trooped to the Best Western Hotel, GRA, venue of the concert in their thousands, were treated to unlimited fun from talented artistes.
Ace comedian, Okey Bakassi, who anchored the show spiced the music entertainment with wise-cracks and humorous jabs that sent the audience reeling with laughter each time.
Disk jockey duties were provided by DJ XGee, who kept the hall bubbling with the country’s top dance hall songs.
The music performances were opened by Mavin Records’ fast rising star, Korede Bello, whose hit song “I don get alert” is currently ruling the airwaves. He sang the hit song and “Adaobi.”
Accomplished musician and Globacom ambassador, Burna Boy, next climbed the stage, re-enacting Fela Anikulapo’s stage stunts and singing some of his popular songs such as “Beast of No Nation” and “Run my race.”
Super star and Globacom ambassador, Wizkid introduced a more exciting dimension to the show by performing live with his life band. He rendered some of his all-time favourites, including, “Ojuelegba”.
The Koko Master, D’banj, another Globacom ambassador, took the entertainment an octave higher, thrilling the audience for close to an hour.
He performed songs like “Orin yato sorin” and “Eni to ba ta felefele” with incredible energy to the amazement of his fans.
Apart from the established stars, up and coming artistes also had an opportunity to thrill the audience.
Some of the local performers include R and A, Blue Ice and the visually impaired Smooth Flavour, who won the heart of the audience when he sang about how his destiny could never be destroyed, his present predicament notwithstanding.
Some of the guests spoke highly of the show. One of them, Evelyn Emokpai, a University of Benin graduate of International Relations, said that she had fun “like never before and it is heart-warming for me to see these stars here on stage free of charge”.
She commended Globacom “for always delighting its customers. When I travelled two weeks ago, I was told that Glo also had a fantastic comedy show in this same hall and this shows how much Globacom loves the people of Edo State.”
In his brief remarks at the show, Globacom’s National Sales Coordinator, Mid-West, Mr. Offor Augustus-Ndu, noted that Benin City “remains one of the priority cities for Globacom and I can assure you all that this is just the beginning of the good things we will be doing around here. Just stay with Globacom and experience all the mind-blowing promotions that will be coming your way in weeks to come”.
