The Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to newspapers advertorials by Governor Ayodele Fayose disparaging President Muhammadu Buhari as a dictator violating the nation’s law of immunity by allegedly sending DSS operatives to comb the Akwa Ibom Government House where they discovered a large cache of weapons and cash.
It said the operatives had not violated the nation’s law by moving against illegal arms dump large enough to illegally topple a democratically elected government.
APC’s state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said in a statement that the DSS operatives acted in the nation’s interest to check what would have been a threat to national stability and reversal of fortunes for the nation’s economy.
Reminding Fayose and his media handlers that the law allows secret service operatives to strike at any part of Nigeria under security threat to maintain peace, Olatunbosun said:
“Let us educate Fayose that a Government House is not the same as foreign embassies or missions that enjoy physical immunity from security activities by local armed forces.
“While a governor enjoys immunity from physical and body security search, the same cannot be said of the Government House because no law in the nation’s constitution says the Government House should be a breeding ground for insurrection and insurgency where state enemies can assemble arms to topple a legitimate government and we suspect Fayose as an accomplice in the arms stockpiling saga in the Akwa Ibom Government House, otherwise there is no reason for him to be edgy and agitated in his response,” Olatunbosun explained.
He berated the governor for trying to whip public sentiment against DSS operatives that performed their legitimate duty to secure the country, saying no amount of blackmail would stop security agents to perform their legal duties against violent and corrupt governors.
He said: “Fayose is the most corrupt governor in Nigeria and he is the most ruthless against members of the opposition. We know why Fayose is blackmailing DSS in this matter. Ekiti Government House is home to thugs and criminal elements armed to the teeth that the governor has been using against the opposition.
“They were used on massive scale during the last elections to attack the opponents. As we speak, they are still lodged in the Government House where they take off at nights to rob and kidnap innocent Ekiti people.
“We never had this kind of experience for four years of Governor Kayode Fayemi until Fayose started his campaign with importation of criminals that have been stalking the state residents.
“We call on DSS to be alert to its responsibilities of maintaining internal cohesion and security integrity across the country and should comb everywhere, including the Aso Rock if need be, to ensure that no man in authority constitutes himself as a security risk to the nation’s unity,” he said.
Urging Ekiti people to be wary of Fayose’s inciting statements to set them against the Federal Government, Olatunbosun said:
“Our party urges Ekiti people not to fall for Fayose’s attempt to use them as cannon fodder to preserve his illegal activities in government.
“Fayose has kept all his children out of danger in Nigeria and kept them safely abroad while he incites and distributes weapons to the children of the poor to fight to defend his illegalities.
“Fayose cannot survive in a society where the law works, that is why he keeps armed criminals permanently in the Government House for use to keep himself in power without opposition.
“The Akwa Ibom example has put the governor on edge and so he is trying whatever he can to discredit the DSS and pre-empt the security agency from interrogating his illegal activities of keeping criminals and arms in the Government House.
Olatunbosun also questioned Fayose’s state of mind, wondering why the governor believed that President Goodluck Jonathan’s defeat and acceptance of that defeat was a favour by the former President after Nigerians overwhelmingly rejected him at polls for running Nigeria aground with unprecedented looting by the officials of that administration.
“We must be worried about the state of health of this governor who in the course of trying to shield himself from security scrutiny over harbouring criminals in the Government House, veered off from that course to make remark on Buhari’s assets and asserted that he was comfortable before he became governor even though all of us know that he was completely broke before election.
“The question we must ask is; what was Fayose doing for a living before he became governor? When did he acquire his alleged properties in Dubai, South Africa, Banana Island and Abuja, among other properties scattered around Nigeria and abroad? We know he lived in a face-me- and face-you apartment in Ibadan prior to 2003.
“Fayose is a governor, but he is not above the law. Ekiti State Government House should be combed to flush out his thugs who have unleashed terror on many Ekiti citizens and DSS must search for arms and ammunition we believe he has also stockpiled to be used in the forthcoming Local Government elections.
“Any part of this country cannot be allowed to constitute a security risk to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Fayose should be kept under close security watch given his subversive utterances and actions against the President of the country. He has taken his immunity too far by breaking the norms and laws of the land thereby infringing on the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“It is regrettable that all this madness in the media is at the expense of Ekiti people who have lost millions of naira for the governor’s personal advertorials that have no bearing to their lives, yet the governor will complain that Ekiti State has no money,” Olatunbosun said.
