The Giesi ruling house on Thursday, 10th September, 2015 debunked the reports in the media that it has presented candidates that would contest for the next Ooni of Ife to the kingmakers saying such reports was capable of creating confusion in the ruling house.
Addressing a press conference in Ile-Ife, the spokesperson for Giesi, one of the four ruling houses for the stool of Ooni, Prince Adekunle Adelowo Ogunleye said the royal household is still waiting for the directive of Osun state governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola before list of candidates can be announced.
Prince Ogunleye who serves as Secretary to Giesi ruling house said the royal house respects the law and would abide by the 1979/80 Chieftaincy Declaration that states clearly that Giesi is the next ruling house that would succeed the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade who died in a London Hospital in July this year.
While debunking the claim by a ruling house that the Giesi had obtained the sum of N5 million naira in exchange to right to the stool of Ooni, Prince Ogunleye said whoever made the claim should prove it.
Ogunleye, who is part of the eight royal families that make up the Giesi declared that any person who claims to have been presented by Giesi is fake.
His words: “there is no doubt that, we, the Giesi ruling House is the next to produce the Ooni of Ife following the 1987/80 Chieftaincy Declaration signed by the state government during the era of Oba Adesoji Aderemi. So, it is not true that we have presented candidates to the kingmakers.
“I have told journalists to always contact me for necessary clarification whenever they want to publish any news that has to do with the Giesi ruling house. We respect the rule of law and so, we are waiting for Mr. Governor’s “go ahead” before we can present the candidates that would contest the stool of Ooni.
“If there is anyone parading himself as a candidate from Giesi ruling house, such person is fake because we have not screened our candidates, we have only done verification and we are still expecting more interested candidates till the governor asks us to present our candidates”.
Other royal families in the Giesi ruling house that were present at the press briefing are: Oba Adedire, Adefisoye Badiora, Oyewole Obamole, Prince Tunde Olapare, Prince Kunle Owojole, Princess Adenike Tobaloju, Prince Sogo, Prince Kehinde Ogunwusi and Barrister Adedigba.
