The immediate past Governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, was finally confirmed as a minister by the Senate on Thursday, 29th October, 2015.
The stage for a heated debate was set when members broke into executive session to debate the report of the Senate Ad-ho set up to investigate petition on allegation of corruption raised against Amaechi by senators from Rivers State.
The Senate resumed plenary session after about 20 minutes and there was a heated argument for and against the adoption of the committee’s report between those from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators.
With superior argument, it was obvious that the APC senators will carry the day, thus PDP senators staged a walk out.
The walk out paved the way for the Senate to first reject the report of the committee and then approved the nomination of the former Rivers Governor as a minister.
Other ministerial nominees in the second batch sent to the Senate were also cleared.
