The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone II, Onikan, Lagos, south west, Nigeria, Bala Hassan has warned Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) and other police departments to stop extra judicial killings.
AIG Bala who said this when he visited Lagos Police Command on Monday, 26th October, 2015 that any officer caught perpetrating extra judicial killing would be dismissed and charged to court with immediate effect.
The AIG also warned that all police officers must be very careful when they handle arms.
“Extra Judicial killings must stop especially in SARS. Whenever you arrest armed robbery suspects prepare their prosecution papers and charge them to court.
“If you are not satisfy with the judgment, you can appeal in a higher court. Whoever is caught in extra-judicial killimg would be dismissed and prosecuted.
“We want to maintain peaceful existence between police and the public,” he said.
He also instructed all police commanders and DPOs in Lagos and Ogun to improve on their responses to crime in their states.
“Your response time to crimes in Lagos and Ogun must improve, it must not be more than five minutes.
“Measure has been put in place to combat waterways robbery as our men are on alert,” the AIG said.
He said the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has given order to all police officers that wish to further their educational career to register for the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) .
