A Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State on Tuesday, 24th November, 2015 sentenced a-20-year-old man, Toheeb Azeez to three years imprisonment for stealing six pumping machines that belong to the federal government of Nigeria.
Azeez was said to have destroyed the six pumping machines, which are properties of the Federal Housing Authority, at the Federal Housing Estate Ogo-Oluwa area, Osogbo, while trying to cart them away.
The convict who was arrested on 16th November, 2015 by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun state command was found guilty of a two-count charge levelled against him.
The charge sheet contained that Azeez committed felony to wit unlawfully destroying and removing six pumping machines.
He was said to have committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section 1 (3) (a) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, CAP M17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
He was also accused of committing felony to wit stealing six pumping machines valued at N102, 000 property of the Federal Housing Authority at the Federal Housing Estate Ogo-Oluwa area, Osogbo.
Consequent to this, Azeez was said to have committed an offence contrary to section 383 (1) of the Criminal Code CAP C38Vol.4 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Azeez who was not represented by any lawyer in court had entered into guilty pleas to the two-count charge before he passionately begged the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing him.
Delivering his ruling however, the presiding judge, Justice Babs Kuewumi sentenced Azeez to two years imprisonment with hard labour on the first count and one year imprisonment with hard labour on the second count.
Kuewumi said the sentence should run concurrently.
