Commercial Driver Docked For Alleged Bus Theft

For allegedly stealing a Previa bus, a commercial bus driver, Abass Ganiyu have been docked at a Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun state.

Ganiyu, whose age, according to the charge sheet obtained by our correspondent is 38 years allegedly stole the bus with registration number LSR199.

The prosecutor, Mireti Wilson, an Assistant Supritendent of Police, told the court that the accused stole the bus belonging to one Mr Matthew Olakunle.

Wilson said the bus was valued at #750,000.

He then argued that Ganiyu committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 383 and 390 (4)(c) of the Criminal Code Cap.34, Vol. II Laws of Osun State, 2003.

The accused had pleaded not guilty to the one count of stealing pressed against him.

Ganiyu explained to the court during hearing that he took the bus from the owner in order to make ends meet and also give him returns daily.

He claimed that he did not steal the vehicle explaining that he had been driving the bus for the past four months before the vehicle was stolen where he parked it in front of his house at Isale Osun area of Osogbo.

He had been granted bail by the court before the hearing commenced.

The presiding judge, Magistrate Fatimah Sodamade adjourned the case till 4th April 2016 for further hearing.
