A 34-year-old ex-convict, Adeleke Ademola has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by an Osogbo Magistrate court, Osun State for robbing a hostel of Osun State University (UNIOSUN).
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Rasaq Olayiwola informed the court that Ademola broke into the students’ hostel in Osogbo on February 23, 2016 and robbed some mobile phones, cash and other valuable items belonging some students of the University.
According to Olayiwola, the undergraduates who were robbed of their items are: Olayiwola Seun, Adewusi Abosede, Bamigbade Seyi and Akingbade Ademide.
The prosecutor said the convict bugled the students hostel at about 3:00 am and carted away items including a purse containing a sum of #1,000, a flash drive, a wristwatch, an infinix phone, a BlackBerry, a PSP game and #2000 cash.
He said the stolen items were valued at #94,500.
The prosecutor further stressed that the accused committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.
The ex-convict entered into a not guilty plea to one count of stealing pressed against him and begged the court to be merciful in sentencing him.
The presiding judge, Magistrate Adejumoke Olowolagba convicted Ademola of the crime and sentenced him to two years imprisonment without option of fine.
